SAVA

Saskatoon Amateur Volleyball Association

The co-ed and womens draws have been updated to show the progress of teams so far in the seeding tournament.  If you notice any errors, please contact Carlene at 260-8822 or carlene123@gmail.com.

There have also been a few small changes in the schedule for September 18th and 19th.  The only changes for September 18th are for the 9:00am Minor Officials. Please check to see which court you MO on, as it may have changed from the previous schedule.  For September 19th, the changes are for the winners and losers of co-ed matches 73, 74 and 75.  Please refer to the files below when tracking your team’s progress in the seeding tournament rather than schedules that you may have printed out from last week.  Thanks!

Lost items from the previous week will be returned to the gym which they were found the following week.  A number of water bottles and articles of clothing were found after the games on Sunday.

Please find an executive member and they will help you out.

Also, please remember that if you are minor officiating the last game of the day, you are responsible for taking the nets and stands down, replacing the benches to the side of the gym and picking up any garbage left on your court.  Failure to do so results in a $25 default fee loss.  One team on September 12 has already been fined.

Scrimmage

Here is the latest schedule for SAVA’s 5 nights of rental at Aden Bowman:
Aug 31 – Womens scrimmage, Six Pak, Sets Kittens, Ball Busters, S&M
Sept 1 – Most likely will be canceled
Sept 2 – Scrimmage/Tryouts for players looking for teams
Sept 7 – Womens scrimmage, Hot Tamales, Nice Hard Tips, Dolls with Balls, Sets Kittens.
Sept 9 – Co-ed scrimmage, You Talkin’ To Me?, Finger Pushups, Sofa King Cool, Supreme Court.

Updated Bylaws

The updated bylaws have been posted on the website at General Information. It would be useful to look over the updated bylaws, especially 12.9 (Substitution List Players) and 12.10 (Permit Players).
Going to be an exciting year!

Online Rosters

This year’s rosters will be completed online.  Captains that want to get started go to following link: https://www.savavball.ca/members/forgottenPassword.php.  At that site, you will enter the email address you have provided to SAVA.  A random password will be generated and sent to your email address.

Included in the email from the SAVA website will be your username (email address), new password and a link to enter the SAVA site.

Once you have logged into the site, go to “My Profile” tab on the top right corner.  Please update your profile (date of birth and gender) and change your password!

Then you can start registering your team on the “Team Info” page. Initially members are “not verified” after you add them. This is because the system sends an email to them asking them to verify that they want to play on your team… similar to confirm a friend on facebook.

To add a member to your team you need their first name, last name, email and date of birth. Captains, please notify your team members that they will need to confirm they want to play for your team on the ‘Team Info’ page.

If you have any problems, contact Amber Smith or Chris Gaschler, who will help you through the process.

Seeding Tournament Schedule

The seeding tournament schedule for the 2010-2011 season has been posted.

Captains please be sure to register your teams online and have all members verified before Sunday Sept. 12th, 2010.

As discussed at the AGM, we are having a presentation this fall on the basic rules of SAVA and the new rules for SAVA.  It should be a 45 minute presentation.  It starts at 7:00 pm at Bridges (2415 22 Street West) in the basement.  It will be held on Friday September 10th.  If you are not able to attend or a member from your team cannot attend, a $25 default fee will be taken from your team for not showing.
I would recommend coming because of the 2 big rule changes this year.  The first is permitting players and the second is the substitution pool.  The updated bylaws should be posted very shortly on the website.
  Hope to see everyone out!

SAVA executive opening

The SAVA executive has recently had a member resign. This leaves the MLA as Equipment Facilitator open. This year would be a very exciting year to be on the executive with all the new changes to the league. If you are interested please contact Amber Smith at amberbrooke1984@hotmail.com.

Looking forward to an exciting season!

Thanks
Amber

SAVA Practise Gym Time Available

I have secured one gym (2 courts) at Aden Bowman for 5 nights from 7pm to 9pm each night. The dates are:

  • Tues Aug 31
  • Wed Sept 1
  • Thur Sept 2
  • Tues Sept 7
  • Thurs Sept 9

My goal would be to either put on clinics and/or have groups of 4 teams use this time as practice. Please contact me via email or Facebook, and let me know which dates work best for you and/or your team. I will attempt to arrange a schedule based on all the input.

The cost will be $80 divided by the number of participants so it will only cost you $3 and change per person for your team of 6 to use the gym for 2 hours which is very reasonable.

For more information please look at the skills clinics link under the tab, “League Info”.
