General Update on 2021/2022 SAVA Season

News Image

Hi all,

I know many of you have been eagerly waiting for an update on SAVA. The executive team met last night to discuss the latest health guidelines (to be announced by the Gov't tomorrow), how those affect our return to play plan and getting the season going.

I'll go into more detail, but in summary:

  • You haven't missed any deadlines. If you attended the AGM or submitted a proxy vote, your team has a spot reserved
  • We should be able to start the season near the end of October, with the majority of play taking place in Martensville
  • Players and Officials will likely require some combination of masks, proof of vaccination or negative test in order to enter the facilities

We have the MAP reserved through to the spring, but we need to ensure we are following whatever health guidelines are set out by the Gov't, city of Martensville and the school board in order to use their facilities. The official guidelines should be announced tomorrow, but from the sounds of it, people will likely require some form of protection in order to enter most gyms and other fitness/sports facilities. SAVA will be going through SVA/Volleyball Canada again for insuring players and getting sanctioned officials (This is that $8 per player fee you would've paid in previous seasons). We are also in the process of migrating the majority of our website, forms and accounts over to TeamLinkt (the same app you'll use to manage your rosters, access your schedule, sign waivers, etc) and I apologize for any missed or delayed responses while we complete that process.

The executive team will be meeting on Monday to go over the new health guidelines and formalize what the league structure will be for the season (return to play plan, # of divisions, seeding / reseeding and carrying over reserved spots). Assuming everything is a go, we will start reaching out to captains to begin registering teams/rosters next week, collecting fees, and building the schedule. We want to get this league running as efficiently and safely as possible. Taking the necessary precautions is the only way we can help ensure the season runs smoothly without hiccups through to the spring. Defense wins championships. Please reach out if you have any follow up questions or concerns.

Cheers,

Jesse Rolheiser
